The word “peace” is so dear and important that the creation of the living world is not possible without peace. Due to various genocides as well as the First and Second World Wars, people all over the world were forced to live in great unrest and suffering. Peace-loving and charitable people discussed and reflected on how peace could be maintained. In this context, the United Nations General Assembly decided in 1981 to celebrate September 21 every year as the International Day of Peace. yoga is essential for peace so there is strong relationship with World peace day and yoga.

Yoga and peace

Since then, every year, the member states of the United Nations have been celebrating this day. The slogan of this year’s International Day of Peace is ‘Sustainable Development Goals: Fundamental Foundations of Peace’. This day began with the wish for peace in all countries and the people of the world. This year’s World Day of Peace is being celebrated especially by including yoga and meditation programs, and I would like to say that everyone should celebrate it in this way.

Peace is a human right

Peace is the basic foundation of the development of any country. Peace is not only the basic foundation of national development, but also a fundamental and invaluable right of mankind. The right to peace is the right of mankind against war. It is the right of everyone to be free and free from war, violence, riots, and all kinds of unrest. The main objective of the United Nations Charter, issued in 1945 after the Second World War, was to ‘establish peace in the world by stopping war’.

We can see that the preamble of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948, emphasizes peace by saying that ‘the recognition of human rights is the establishment of justice and peace It has been found that the purpose of the temporary tribunals formed to prosecute criminals after the genocidal wars in various countries was also to establish peace. In that case, stopping the war was the main goal.

Peace as a part of international law

Peace is an integral part of international law. Today, the right to peace has become an. All human rights can be enjoyed only in a peaceful environment. The right to peace is more important than all other rights. The United Nations has been issuing declarations from time to time linking peace and other substantive rights together. The most recent Declaration on the Right to Peace, 1984, states that it is the duty of the state to protect the peaceful rights of the people.

This declaration states that the people have the right to peace and that disputes should be resolved peacefully. This declaration portrays peace as an important and sacred right of the inhabitants of this earth. Not only the bodies of the United Nations, but also organizations such as the International Red Cross are working for peace. Many organizations, including the World Peace Council, are working as non-governmental organizations.

But today, some groups feel happy by killing and causing pain to others by competing with armed forces, which is many times more than the amount of money being spent on peace in the world. Nuclear weapons testing is being spent on war. This is adding challenges to the efforts to establish peace in the world. But efforts to establish peace continue.

Peace is the solution to violence.

The main reason why violence cannot be reduced in the world is that the causes of violence cannot be addressed. Today, many efforts have been made to stop unrest, but they are focused only on stopping violence by using force. The world’s attention has not been properly focused on addressing the causes of violence. Peace, non-violence, human rights, and democracy cannot be separated from each other.

The governments that govern the state have still not paid attention to the fact that peace can be established based on human rights and democracy. Even now, the world’s great powers are entangled in the belief that peace can be established by suppressing violence. Nepal is a country that has experienced armed conflict once. It is more reasonable to discuss peace to prevent conflict from happening again in the country and to ensure that peace is not disturbed.

Since the causes, nature, and effects of Nepal’s armed conflict and the measures adopted to resolve it are of a fundamental nature, Nepal’s peace process in establishing peace after the conflict has become a subject of interest, discussion, research, and study for the world, as well as being exemplary. In the current context, Nepal is in a position to contribute to establishing world peace. But despite all this, the impact of the violent conflict that claimed 17,000 lives in Nepal still lingers, bringing tears to my eyes.

sustainable peace

Sustainable peace in human life is a state where peace is not only the absence of war, but also established based on social, economic, and political justice. This also includes the protection of human rights, ensuring equality and opportunity. Peace maintains world friendship. It increases mutual harmony. Therefore, one should always create a peaceful environment and also maintain inner peace.

The study of peace education is necessary to maintain sustainable peace. In practice, peace education is a problem-solving education that attempts to build universal values and behaviors in every individual that presuppose a culture of peace, the development of non-violent conflict resolution skills, and a shared commitment to working together to realize common goals. Peace education needs to be included in school curricula. Peace education should also be provided in the home, family, and community.

Conclusion

Peace is an environment in which anyone can do any work freely without any hindrance. A state free from riots, noise, quarrels, fear, etc., can be considered a state of peace. Factors that disrupt environmental peace include war, earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, and landslides, which cause physical damage. If we are aware of these painful physical causes and adopt preventive measures, the damage can be minimized.

Mental peace is as important as a person’s soul. Material comforts and conveniences alone cannot make a person’s mind peaceful and satisfied. To have complete peace and happiness, it is essential to have peace in the mind. I would like to say that we should always achieve mental peace through yoga and meditation.
