The necessity of yoga education in schools Essential

Yoga education is complete science

Yoga and meditation are a complete science, a complete lifestyle, a complete medical system and a complete spiritual knowledge. Due to this, the popularity of yoga education is increasing day by day. Through yoga education, from building a healthy body to developing human values, culture, traditions, and ethics of a person, one can do so. I would like to explain a little about how the human community lived a happy and peaceful life in ancient times, using yoga meditation

Ancient human community and peace

The ancient human community was not developed in the fields of education, health, transportation, communication, etc., compared to the modern human community, although honesty and peace prevailed. They used to practice yoga and meditation continuously to keep their lives healthy, peaceful, and strong. Although there were no modern educational institutions like in the present era, yoga education was taught in Gurukuls. Maharishi Patanjali’s yoga and meditation education is still worth following and is being done.

Yoga education for peace and a healthy life.

Yoga education has been a learning and teaching activity since the beginning of human civilization. We can see from the texts of our Vedic period as proof of how old and how important yoga education is. Lord Shiva created yoga, and Maharishi Patanjali organized it. In this way, we study the history of yoga education. Yoga education, which was systematically studied and taught in ancient and medieval times, seems to have become less active over time.

Yoga education and Nepali civilization

It is written in the Vedas, Puranas, and Upanishads that human civilization developed in the sacred land of the southern belt of the vast Himalayas. This land is now divided into various countries like Nepal, India, Bhutan, and Pakistan. There is evidence that the great sage Patanjali, who organized yoga and meditation, was born in the lap of the Himalayas in Nepal. Thus, the yoga education organized by Patanjali is expanding all over the world with great importance, even in the modern and scientific era.

Nepal National Yoga Day

In Nepal, Yoga Day was celebrated on the occasion of the Uttarayan of the Sun from 15 January 1980 15  and yoga and meditation classes were also started in schools. Six-month yoga and naturopathy courses have been taught at Nepal Sanskrit University. Formal and informal yoga practice centers are running in various places across Nepal. Many Nepalis and foreigners have also benefited from participating in this.

International Yoga Day

In the course of organizing and expanding yoga and meditation, World Yoga Day was celebrated in Nepal from 15 January 1980, on the day when Uttarayan begins, under the initiative of Dr. Hari Prasad Pokharel. Yoga and meditation, which were studied and researched by sages in the lap of the Himalayas during the Vedic period, had almost disappeared in Nepal. The work of raising public awareness by declaring the day to revive it has begun in this area.

In ancient and medieval times, mental peace, stability, and health were achieved through yoga, meditation and Ayurveda. Under the influence of the modern era, Nepali communities, which had started to give it less recognition, have started to be attracted to yoga again after it was used more for treatment and happiness in Europe and America, and started to make yoga and meditation more systematic and effective!

After the World Yoga Day, which was celebrated on Magh 1, was also celebrated on June 21, campaigners in Nepal had proposed to the Council of Ministers through the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction to declare Magh 1 as National Yoga Day. The Government of Nepal had declared Magh 1 as National Yoga Day on the proposal of the then Peace Minister Narahari Acharya on July 28, 2072.

Since Uttarayan is considered important for yoga and meditation, the government has declared Makar Sankranti, i.e., Magh 1, the first day of Uttarayan. Currently, Nepal celebrates National Yoga Day on Magh 1 and International Yoga Day on June 21. It is better to celebrate Yoga Day twice a year. In the last few years, the number of people attracted to yoga and meditation has been increasing.

Yoga in the World

Yoga and meditation, which originated and spread from Nepal, are now widespread all over the world. According to yoga and meditation, yoga is practiced all over the world for physical, mental, and spiritual health. It helps reduce stress, increase concentration, and provide peace of mind, due to which it has become a part of the lives of more than 300 million people around the world today.

Yoga also exists in India as a deep cultural and spiritual heritage and is recognized internationally, which is evident from the theme of ‘One Earth, One Health Yoga’, which connects the health of the earth through yoga. Thus, Nepal and India have played a major role in spreading yoga meditation in the world, and its activities are currently increasing.

Importance of yoga in the world

Physical and mental health: Yoga and meditation help reduce stress, obesity, uric acid, and other health problems.

Spiritual development: It helps to connect with the soul and promote spiritual development. Spirituality makes human life humble and helpful.

Overall health: Yoga not only keeps the body and mind healthy, but also contributes to improving the health of the earth.

Why should schools teach yoga?

In the present era, it is very important to make yoga and meditation a compulsory subject in the school curriculum. Some of the main reasons for this are as follows. I would like to remind everyone concerned.

1. Balance mental health through yoga and meditation

Today’s fast-paced lifestyle, pressure of study, and competition are increasing stress, anxiety and depression in students. Yoga and meditation make the mind calm, stable, and focused, which maintains mental balance.

2. To increase memory and concentration

Meditation practice increases brain function, strengthens memory, and brings concentration in studies.

Students can remember what they have learned for a long time.

3. To increase physical health and immunity

Yoga practice makes the body healthy, flexible, and energetic. It increases immunity and protects against an unhealthy lifestyle.

4. Development of discipline and positive thinking

Yoga and meditation bring self-control, discipline, and positive thinking.

It teaches students a sense of morality, tolerance, and cooperation.

5. Improving the overall education system

By making yoga and meditation a compulsory subject in schools, students can develop physically, mentally, and spiritually.

This not only makes education but also life balanced and successful.

Conclusion:

Yoga and meditation are very important for maintaining mental health. Since ancient times, sages have used to teach students yoga and meditation and initiated them. Even in the present situation, yoga and meditation are very important, so it is very good to follow them. As a yoga expert, I also want to say that all teachers, students, parents, and education support agencies should conduct yoga meditation classes as a compulsory subject in schools. Yoga meditation is necessary for a healthy and happy life.
