My birth, parents and lineage

I was born in 1958 as the beloved son of my parents Tulsiram + Parvati, a simple and charitable couple from a devotee lineage. My grandfather’s grandfather, Brahmadev, used to be busy in worshipping or devoting himself to God and his ancestors, and also used to do charity work for the people, so he was known in society as a devotee ( भक्त ). We, his descendants, are still known in society as devotees even after 4 generations.

My birthplace and village

I was born in a small village called Gahate. At that time, it was in Ward No. 6 of Damek Village Panchayat in Baglung District of western Nepal, which is now in Ward No. 2 of Jaimini Municipality due to the new local structure.  I lived there until I was 5 years old. When I was 6 years old, my parents moved to a village called Damek 8 Chapakharka, which is now in Ward No. 3 of Jaimini Municipality.

My childhood (first decade)

My parents raised me with great love and care, although they lived in poverty, lack of health facilities, and lack of education. There were no roads or transportation, no formal schools, no health care centers , and no modern medicine. There was no electricity. To buy salt, people had to walk to Butwal or Mustang, the China border. People could carry salt on their backs and reach home in 12-15 days. This was the way all Nepali people lived their lives at that time.

Struggle for education

The efforts, struggles, and challenges I faced for education were very memorable. I feel like I am the only person who has achieved  education through such a huge struggle and facing problems. At that time, there were no schools in the village. Because formal education had just begun in Nepal, schools were just starting to open in the villages, and there were only a few small schools in the villages.

My early education and Sanskrit

My grandfather, Kamadev Sapkota was a scholar of Sanskrit and Vedas. He was my first teacher गुरु and started my education and taught me some Sanskrit and Vedas. At that time, a person who could read books written in Sanskrit, such as the Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, Gita, etc. and explain their meaning in Nepali was considered a person with a quality education. I also started doing the same and was studying Sanskrit more. It was spread in the country that it was good to study English as a world language. I also felt like studying English.

English and Modern Education

After the democratic system of governance began in Nepal, formal schools started opening all over the country. At that time, Bharatpuri Primary School was also opened in our village. While I was studying Sanskrit, I also enrolled in Bharatpuri School to fulfill my desire to study English and modern education. In that time Lal Bahadur Chhantyal was the principal of the school. He became my first English language teacher.

I completed my primary level from there with great difficulty. I completed my lower secondary level from other schools, but due to financial constraints and the lack of a secondary school nearby, my studies were suspended for some time.

Support for further education

I had a strong desire to study further, but had to stop due to financial constraints and the lack of a school nearby. I kept looking for ways to fulfill my desire to study. I met some teachers and experts and asked for solutions. While searching for solutions, I met Yagya Regmi, who was a teacher. He helped me to self-study by collecting books according to the formal high school curriculum. He also taught me according to his academic ability and skills.

After a year of self-study, I got the opportunity to get admitted to Tribhuvan Secondary School, Shankar Pokhari Parbat. It was about 35 kilometers away from my house and had to walk 7 hours  on the difficult path of the mountainous region. In that time there were no any roads and vehicles.

Academic success despite economic crisis

I started my secondary school education, but I didn’t have money to pay for school fees, accommodation, and educational materials. At that time, there was no opportunity to work to earn money. School was only closed once a week, on Saturdays. During that time, I would carry salt from the Syangja district putali bazar market, 45 kilometers away, and sell it in the village to pay for fees and other expenses. I continued my studies by working hard. After 2 years, I completed my studies and returned home.

Parental care and higher education

When I returned home after completing my studies, my parents were already 60+ years old and unwell. I had a great desire to pursue higher education. But taking care of my parents was my first duty. So I started working as a teacher at the nearby Bharatpuri Primary School, where I had previously studied. After that, I started taking care of my parents while earning a living through a teaching career . Two years passed like doing this, but my desire to pursue higher studies remained. Opportunities for higher education also began to become available within the country.

I saved some money to pursue higher education and started studying after taking some time off. I completed my studies from intermediate to master’s level, sometimes regularly and sometimes privately. While maintaining my teaching profession, I also completed my B.Ed( Bachelor in education)and masters in sociology M.A it was the required qualification of a secondary level teacher.

And I got the responsibility of the principal of the school. After that, I worked hard to upgrade the school and after completing it up to the secondary level, I retired after 42 years of service. I will write about my life story in details  in another article.

On the other hand, I was able to be with my parents and help them who gave birth to me and who raised me with love and care, and who gave me a bright future, by being with them daily and taking care of them with respect, until their last breath. I would also like to thank God for giving me such a blessing.

Conclusion on my Autobiography and educational journey

In this article, I have tried to include my autobiography and the details of the struggles and challenges I faced to get an education. I have also presented a story about the success I have achieved in the field of educational attainment. I hope that by reading this, the readers will gain the knowledge that the fruits of hard work are sweet and that a person who works hard and struggles will definitely succeed.
